  What is SOWAMED ?

SOWAMED is a Specific Support Action (SSA) intended to support the implementation of the Sixth EU Framework Programme (FP6). The global objective of SOWAMED is to establish a methodology exchange network and build an expertise capacity between partners in several research projects (STREP and/or CA) of the INCO-MED Program under the 4th, 5th, and 6th PCRD in the domain of sustainable "land and water" resource management and the prevention of risks on cultivated and inhabited watersheds.

Regional workshop on methodology exchanges « Regional workshop on water and land use planning »- Responsible: IAV + ID Consulting. Date : 27-30 October 2008, Rabat Morocco

Objectives
• To carry out an overview of the current methodologies developed for water and Land Use Planing, especially where an accurate competition exists between rural and urban uses.
• To exchange models and data bases on water and land use planning.
• To test models and DSS on water and land use planning including the socio economic dimension

Description of work
• The workshop will be held in Morocco, coordinated by IAV (P3)
• It will consist in reviewing the methodologies, models and data available up to now
• It will do the state of the art and study future developments in water and land use planning (especially the use of remote sensing)

The second SOWAMED workshop should be a combination of theory and practice sessions on Spatial techniques for analyses and modeling, Remote sensing for irrigation, GIS and the use of hydro tool in watershed analysis. This workshop is coordinated by Prof Shatanawi from the the University of Jordania, in Amman, and Prof Ronny Berndtsson, from the University of Lund, Sweden.

The first workshop of SOWAMED will take place from the 28 February to the 1st Mars in Tunis. This workshops aims to develop methodology exchanges in the theme of «development of cultivated watersheds in hills and mountains». Responsible: INRGREF + IRD UMR LISAH.
